RUSTIC TAMAN JURONG IS NOW A BUSTLING TOWN
From being a haven for crocodiles in the early 1920s, Jurong has grown from small fishing kampongs to the thriving industrial town and the residential estate it is today.
How Jurong got its name....
It is said that Mr Joe Daid, a Jewish businessman who operated an open-air cinema in the area after World War II, was commonly referred to as "Orang Jew" meaning Jewish man or "Jew Orang". This name could have been shorted to "Jew-rong" or the modern day "Jurong"
Many things have changed since the days where crocodiles outnumbered people. Jurong Town has grown into a bustling and vibrant town well provided with modern infrastructure and amenities.
